Learned from National Pipeline Network Group, the key project of China's 14th Five-Year Plan - Phase IV of the West-East Gas Pipeline from Turpan to Hami has been completed and put into operation. This 583-kilometer-long segment is the first operational section of this pipeline phase.

The West-East Gas Pipeline Phase IV is a new east-west energy corridor following Phases I, II, and III. It starts in Wuqia County, Xinjiang, passing through LunNan and Turpan to Zhongwei in Ningxia. The Turpan-Hami segment has a design pressure of 12 MPa and an annual gas transmission capacity of 15 billion cubic meters.

This section mainly passes through the Gobi desert with sparse population and difficult transportation. It traverses areas such as Gaochang District in Turpan City and Shanshan County, where summer temperatures exceed 47°C. It also passes through a "hundred-mile wind zone" with strong winds for nearly 140 days a year.

During construction, the National Pipeline Network Group innovatively applied advanced technologies to overcome challenges. In seven seismic fault zones along the route, large deformation steel pipes with a diameter of 1219 mm and a thickness of 33 mm were used to enhance earthquake resistance. Additionally, the extensive application of 18-meter-long pipes reduced weld seams by about one-third compared to conventional steel pipes. Moreover, all stations and valve rooms in Xinjiang have adopted photovoltaic systems, which are expected to save over 360,000 kWh annually and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 362 tons.

The West-East Gas Pipeline system includes Phases I-IV with a total length exceeding 20,000 kilometers. Phase I runs from LunNan in Xinjiang to Shanghai. Phase II extends from Horgos in Xinjiang to Guangzhou in Guangdong. Phase III connects Horgos in Xinjiang to Fuzhou in Fujian. The western and eastern sections of Phase III are already operational while construction on the central section is ongoing.
