Ewende Micro silica powder (silica fume) has the following applications in the metallurgical industry:
1. As metallurgical pellet binder:
- Micro-silica powder is blended with water to make pellets, and then naturally dried or sintered to get high quality pellets. This kind of pellet does not need to add additional binder, and the impurities in the pellet are very small, and it can be returned to the electric furnace as smelting material, which can reduce the production cost and improve the smelting efficiency and metal recovery rate. For example, in the production of chrome ore pellets, micro silica powder can enhance the bonding of the pellets, so that they are not easy to break during transportation.
2. Used to improve the performance of refractory materials:
- High-quality micro silica powder is mainly used as high-performance refractory castables, prefabricated parts, ladle materials, breathable bricks, self-flowing refractory castables and dry and wet spraying materials. The ultra-micro structure of micro silica powder has the role of gap filling, which can improve the denseness and strength of refractory materials; its high activity in the presence of alumina components, it is easier to generate mullite phase, so that the high-temperature strength of the refractory material and the thermal shock of the markedly improved.
3. As the refining agent of steel:
The silica in the micro-silica powder can react with the impurities in the steel to form the slag which is easy to be removed, so as to achieve the purpose of refining the steel. For example, in the production of some special steel, adding an appropriate amount of micro silica powder can effectively reduce the sulfur, phosphorus and other impurities in the liquid steel content, improve the quality of steel.
4. As an alloy additive:
micro silica powder can be used as an additive of alloying elements to adjust the composition and properties of alloys. For example, in the production of silicon steel, adding an appropriate amount of micro silica powder can improve the magnetic properties and corrosion resistance of steel; in some high-temperature alloys, micro silica powder can improve the high-temperature strength of the alloy and oxidation resistance.
5. Used in iron pretreatment:
In the iron pretreatment process, micro silica powder can be used as an auxiliary material of desulfurizer and dephosphorizer to improve the effect of desulfurization and dephosphorization. At the same time, micro silica powder can also adsorb impurities and gases in molten iron, reduce the content of inclusions in molten iron and improve the purity of molten iron.
